Celebrating 80 Years on the Capricorn Coast Event Recap

On Sunday September 16 we celebrated 80 years of providing free healthcare to disadvantaged kids across Central Queensland with an event at Emu Park’s historic QCWA Hall, marking the anniversary of the opening of the Emu Park children’s home in 1938, and our return to the area with the provision of NDIS early childhood ECEI services.

BUSHkids were overwhelmed by the community’s response to the celebration with a fantastic turnout of one-time bush children, staff who worked at the Emu Park Home, and community leaders who supported the organisation’s operations in Central Queensland.

Most touching were the stories told by the people who attended, with one ex-bush kid describing her stay at the Emu Park home as the best experience of her life!

Our thanks go to the QCWA, who were invaluable supporters of the Bush Children’s Health Scheme then, as they are now of BUSHkids. Thanks also to Kay and Charlie Wilson for organising the event and to State MP for Keppel, Brittany Lauga, who spoke of the importance of our services and welcomed BUSHkids back to her community with the NDIS.
